What Hapje knows.

Hapje is an independent app operated by its developer in the Netherlands. For a privacy question or request, contact support@hapje.app.

We may process your name, email address, profile photo and sign-in details; the communities you join; restaurant recommendations, comments, reactions and lists you create; photos you upload; and the restaurant, city and search information needed to find places. Our servers may also receive basic technical information such as your IP address, device or app version, request time and error details. This helps us keep Hapje reliable and prevent abuse. If you allow it, Hapje can use your device’s location while you are using the app — to rank nearby restaurants first in search and to show your position on the map. Location is used for the request at hand and is not saved to your profile; Hapje never accesses location in the background, and the app works without it. A city you choose and restaurant locations are still location-related data.

We use this data to create and secure your account, keep communities private, show recommendations from your community, power comments, reactions and lists, find restaurant information, provide support, fix problems and enforce the Terms.

Members of your community can see the profile and content you share there. Your sign-in email is not shown to other community members. A private community limits access, but another member can still save or share what they see, so only post what you are comfortable sharing with that group. We use service providers for hosting, databases, email delivery, restaurant search and image storage. They may process only the data needed to provide those services. We may also disclose information when required by law or when necessary to protect users and the service.

We process core account and community data to provide Hapje under these Terms. We process limited security, reliability and abuse-prevention data for our legitimate interest in running a safe service. We may also process data to meet legal obligations, and ask for consent where the law requires it.

We keep account data while your account is active. Recommendations, comments, lists and photos remain until they are removed, the relevant community is removed, or your account is deleted. Limited security and legal records may be kept longer when reasonably necessary. Backup copies disappear as our providers rotate them. You can permanently delete your account inside Hapje under You → About & account → Delete account. For a copy, correction, or other deletion request, contact support@hapje.app from the email address connected to your account. We may need to verify that the account is yours.

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, object to, or receive a portable copy of your personal data. You can also complain to your local data protection authority. In the Netherlands, that is the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens.

Some service providers may process data outside your country. Where required, we use providers and safeguards intended to protect that data under applicable law.

Restaurant search may send the words and city you enter — or, if you allowed it, your approximate position — plus ordinary request information, to Google Maps Platform or OpenStreetMap. Google’s Privacy Policy explains how Google handles information when its service is used. OpenStreetMap’s privacy policy explains its processing.

Hapje is not intended for children under 16. Please do not create an account if you are under 16.

We may update this policy as Hapje changes. We will update the date above and give additional notice in the app when a change materially affects how personal data is used.
